So I just watched the long trailer for Transformers again and read some comments on it. People are kinda stupid. Not kinda. Anyway, my opinion on the movie (based on the trailer and some WP surfing) is as follows:
(In response to numerous comments I read berating the movie for product placement. And the fact that all the car/truck Autobots are GM vehicles)
First of all, there is a Mustang on the Decepticon side, so no, it's not a GM commercial. Also, we live in a world of Ford Mustangs, Chevy Camaros (ok, Bumblebee's model won't be out till 2008), Hummer's and MH-53 Pave-lows (the helicopter), etc. So (story wise), they took those REAL WORLD models to blend in. Fucking weird, yo. Odd how similar that sounds to the original Transformers premise. Cuz turning into made up cars and trucks and vehicles (in the story) to avoid the fanboy's dreaded call of "OH NO! Product Placement!" (IRL -- or at least on digg and other comment boards) makes so much more sense.
(someone actually complained cuz the main human kid wears a "The Stokes" t-shirt)
People wear shirts with logos on them. Boo hoo, a character has a shirt with a logo on it in the trailer. Boo hoo.
(This one is a bit of re-thought of my own opinion of the Director)
Finally, everyone wants to hate on Michael Bay, and I admit, I don't like most of his more recent works, but seriously. The Rock. Give the guy a chance. At least see a second trailer before judging, god.
All that said, their transforming is a little too overdone. At least in the trailer, there's almost too many little moving parts everywhere. I'll admit, I was extremely disappointed when I saw the leaked Megatron pic, but I think that that's his pre-earth mode, so here's hoping he turns into something that even sorta resembles the previous Megatron(s). However, Earth robot-mode Optimus looks sweet. Sorry G1 purists, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
Oh and I just saw the second trailer for TMNT the Movie. I don't care what anyone says, I'm going to watch it. I'm perfectly fine with watching entertaining CG movies and that's what this looks like it's going to be. Plus, it's the Ninja Turtles. All kinds of nostalgia. No Shredder, though. Which I'm partly glad about.
I also atched the second Simpsons trailer. Funny funny stuff. Can't wait. I'm thinking that the scenes in the trailer actually aren't in the movie, they're just there to show you the type of humor. Which seems actually humorous. Dunno, though.
Lastly, watched the FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Dammit. I didn't want to get tricked into seeing this movie (the first one was only passable, at best). But SILVER SURFER!!!! He looks just as cool as I imagine him, if not cooler...ARGH!!! Oh, and it seems to me that this movie is only Silver Surfer, and Galactus, however they decide to interpret him/it (giant planet-devouring alien with a funny hat/planet-scourging sentient techno-virus/Woody Allen), will appear as the villain in the third movie after a ridiculous cliff-hanger at the end of the second one.
That ends my movie trailer impressions.
