Nigeria - Arrival in Abuja

Well, I just arrived in Abuja. What’s happened so far? I stopped over in London Heathrow. British Airways just completed most of their new terminal, Terminal 5, and holy crap that is one big terminal. It’s just for one airline, too. It’s honestly amazing. The stopover was SO LONG, though. I got in at about noon or so and the flight out to Abuja left at 9:30pm. BLECH.

Since arriving in Abuja, I’m reminded of a lot of stuff. There’s the same sorta stark difference between the rich and the poor, but I’m beginning to see more of what makes the “middle class” here. It’s getting better from what I can tell. More traffic lights, more highways, more infrastructure in general. Power still doesn’t run 24/7, though. Stupid NEPA. Hmm, my phone works and gets 3G of all things. I’m pretty surprised at that, but I guess that’s the benefit of GSM. I’m still not keeping AT&T, though. It’s just too annoying while I’m in the US and this phone is a bit unstable for my liking.

Internet is a rare commodity here,

Sunday Drawing: Four-hoofed Beast!

Well, I finally got around to finishing my most recent Sunday drawing. Just to solve the riddle, it was a Ford Mustang. I think this came out looking pretty good, actually. I liked the highlights and shadows in the lights and the wheel of the car. Shading the big flat areas of the body was NOT easy. Oh well, I think it's worth it.

Anyway, without further ado:

C+C welcome.

so I finally started on the drawing that I've been meaning to do for the past few sundays, but since I didn't start on a sunday, it's an "un-sunday" drawing, heh. it's a lot harder than I expected, but it's coming along. Hopefully, I'll have it done by this weekend.

hint: equine, but with rubber hooves.

Temporary update

Hey all,

Sorry about the whole no new drawing/posting thing. Stuff has been a little hectic (and I've been a little lazy), so I haven't gotten a chance to draw or update this blog in a while. I decided that I'd repost an older one to tide you over till I do draw something (I want to do something this weekend -- we'll see).

Anyway, for this one, I chose a drawing by Korean artist Hyung Tae Kim (I have an artbook of his amazing work that I chose to go from - buy that book, btw!) from his work for the RPG series

This is my next drawing from the "Sunday drawing series." Well, that's a bit of a lie, because I didn't actually finish till Tuesday of this past week, but yeah, I started on Sunday, so it's a Sunday piece. It was so much work. X^O Anyway, without further ado:

I like this one because the fur came out really well and the tigers' stripes look good. I'm beginning to really get the hang of using all those pencils that I bought way back when I started this whole thing. I think that it's a pretty good reproduction of the

I finally got around to doing this blog. Anyway, welcome. This is going to to be a collection of art that I've done. I'll have sketches, completed drawings, computer art, whatever I get around to working on and getting in an electronic form. The first thing that I'm posting is something I did for a Sunday drawing day that I've been doing in my house for the past few weeks. This is a bit old (and also on my main blog), but I wanted something to put on here. I've decided to focus on realistic pencils for a while so don't expect any anime-y drawings on here for a bit, unless I decide to post some older stuff.

Here goes.

I like the way this came out, actually. There are a

Sunday drawing

I have a new drawing in my series of Sunday pieces...Like I said I would do last week, this is a realistic drawing of a photograph of someone (not in anime style). It's the first time I've done something like this in a VERY long time. I feel like I need to refocus on this stuff, so expect the next few to be drawings like this. Anyway, don't want to beat around the bush...

I like the way this came out, actually. There are a couple things that I wish I could improve (the hair is supposed to be blonde, but came out a bit too dark in mine; the features on the face are a bit bigger than in the source photo; etc.), but still, pretty good, I think.

C+C welcome.

New: Sasuke and Naruto

Another in my series of "Sunday drawing get together" pieces.

no, it's not yaoi, it's just a shot of Sasuke and Naruto in about 5-10 years time from the current point of the manga, as I see it. I know I said that I would be doing more work from pre-existing sources, but this drawing has seriously been waiting for me to finish for a long time. I did the pencils on this drawing quite a while ago and just now got around to inking and scanning it in. I fully intend to color this eventually, so it's sorta at the halfway point - the same limbo as a few other pieces. Next week, I'll do more realistic pencils like my housemate did this week.

Just got together with my housemate and a friend to do some drawing yesterday. We're starting to do this thing where we get together every Sunday and just draw. This is the first drawing that I've done in a loooong time.

I like the idea of doing this because it forces me to follow through and complete a drawing, which I haven't done in a long time.

Another return-to-days-of-old that this represents for me is drawing a picture direrctly from a pre-existing source. I think that it's time that I go back to this for a bit so that I can improve my basic techniques and understanding of stuff like shading and what-not for my original artwork. For instance, besides being a great way to study good shading techniques, I learned a lot about different levels of pencil softness and when to use which soft/hardness while doing this drawing. I'm pretty satisfied with the whole process. Anyway, without further ado:

I chose a drawing by

I realized that those three of you who read this blog might not know what my current job is exactly yet and I said I would post a description, so here goes (straight from my LinkedIn page):

Assists foreign high-tech companies wishing to enter the US market – specifically the Silicon Valley. Performs services for client companies as needed. Compiles market assessment reports based on first- and second-hand sources. Generates leads and handles sales for companies who have decided to enter the market. Overseeing the overhaul of the US Market Access Center website from a set of static pages to a dynamic resource for companies wishing to enter the Silicon Valley.

So yeah, forgive the resume-speak, but that's the easiest way to do it. 8^)
